Responsible Officer Training Obligations
Under the Occupational Health, Safety and Welfare Act 1986, each body corporate carrying on a business in South Australia is required to appoint one or more responsible officers. Responsible officers are required to attend a course of training recognised or approved by the Advisory committee within 3 months of being appointed as responsible officer – subject to transitional provisions. The requirement to attend this training is in recognition of the pivotal role responsible officers have in ensuring that organisations meet their obligations under the Act. Under current transitional provisions any person who was a responsible officer as at 15 August 2005 has until 15 August 2008 to attend the course of training.

Business SA offers the Responsible Officer training online and further information on the training requirements of responsible officers, including course details and Approved Training Providers is available from SafeWork SA.
