INTRODUCTION TO ‘GREENING THE ARTS’
Environmental sustainability what does it mean – carbon neutrality, certification, standards, ratings, carbon offsets, climate change – there is a lot of information out there. Are we becoming overloaded by this concept of ‘environmental sustainability’ maybe even fatigued by these words? Where to start, how to do it, what are the costs – all good questions to be asking. Managing Director, of GreenFusion Kathryn Calaby will provide a global, national and local overview of environmental sustainability and how the arts and event industries are evolving. She will talk about her philosophy on the ‘shades of green’ and it doesn’t have to be an all or nothing approach. Kathryn will also discuss the importance of ‘green proofing’ when marketing your environmental credentials.

Ian Scobie will then discuss WOMADelaide and the green and sustainability measures that have been put in place at the festival.See here for more.

Rob Brookman will then discuss the ‘Greening the Wharf’ project at the Sydney Theatre Company which amongst other things involves the second largest rooftop photovoltaic installation in Australia.

Andrew Grant will talk about a complete “waste management” approach with a focus on “target zero waste” through combined solutions for maximising recycling and utilising complimentary environmental solutions such as compostable cutlery and packaging, all whilst reducing costs by segmenting waste streams and to minimise waste. Essentially providing immediately implementable ideas and solutions for companies/events of all sizes.

The panellists will then answer questions from the floor.

This is an event not to be missed by anyone who is concerned about the environment and the finding practical examples of how to ‘Green’ your organisation, event or workplace.
